The Bevan Foundation has set out its views on the Welsh Government’s Draft Budget to the Senedd’s Finance Committee.
On 10th January 2024 the Foundation’s Director, Victoria Winckler, gave oral evidence alongside Jessica Laimann from Wales Women’s Budget Group and Women’s Equality Network Wales. The session followed a response to the inquiry into the Welsh Government’s Draft Budget 2024-25.
Amongst a wide range of topics, the Committee’s questioning covered the impact of the Welsh Government reprioritising funding, the sufficiency of the Discretionary Assistance Fund, and what the Welsh Government can do to deliver a unified Welsh Benefits System. Victoria stressed that the cost-of-living crisis is far from over, and that the Welsh Government needs to develop longer-term thinking with regards to the measures needed to ease pressure on low-income households.
