The Bevan Foundation appeared before the Local Government and Housing Committee to give evidence
The Bevan Foundation has given oral evidence to the Local Government and Housing Committee as part of their inquiry into the private rental sector.
Giving evidence alongside JJ Costello, Head of Housing Services, Shelter Cymru; Debbie Thomas, Head of Policy and Communications, Crisis; and Darren Baxter, Principal Policy Adviser, Joseph Rowntree Foundation; Steffan Evans, Head of Policy (Poverty) at the Bevan Foundation, shared insights from some of the Foundation’s work.
Among the key points made by Steffan was that there is a need to increase the supply of social housing if we are to increase housing availability and affordability in Wales. He also argued that the Welsh Government lacks a clear vision for housing in Wales, which has an impact on the effectiveness of its policies. Steffan drew on the Bevan Foundation’s work on the Bevan Foundation’s work on the Local Housing Allowance and homelessness in Wales during his evidence and also informed committee members about some new work that the Foundation has recently started looking at how to increase the supply of community and social housing.
