The Bevan Foundation’s work has been on your screens, on the radio, in the papers and online this January.
There was media interest in a range of Bevan Foundation work during January – including our work and views on Welsh benefits, the Welsh Government’s draft budget and the cost-of-living crisis.
Welsh benefits
The launch of the Foundation’s report Making the case for a Welsh Benefits System generated media coverage throughout Wales and beyond.
You may have spotted or heard from Head of Policy (Poverty), Steffan Evans on BBC Wales today and ITV Wales discussing the findings, or read about them in media outlets including the South Wales Argus, Tivyside Advertiser and the Morning Star.
The Foundation’s research in this area was also featured in an analysis of the Welsh Government’s recommendations to tackle the cost-of-living crisis, conducted by Plaid Cymru and reported by nation.cymru.
Welsh Government Draft Budget
The Foundation’s Director Victoria Winckler appeared on BBC Politics Wales on 14 January, discussing the Welsh Government’s Draft Budget for 2024/25. The Foundation’s evidence on continued reports of significant levels of severe hardship shared with the Senedd was also reported in the South Wales Argus and the Abergavenny Chronicle.
Cost-of-living crisis
With the cost-of-living still making headlines, reports on warm hubs in BBC Wales and S4C’s Newyddion quoted the Bevan Foundation’s work.
Other reports made mention of the Foundation’s work in this area, including a Senedd Research article on housing related ill-health, and ITV‘s coverage of the effect of the cost-of-living crisis on older people living in Wales.
Child poverty
Head of Policy (Poverty), Steffan Evans appeared on BBC Radio Cymru and BBC Radio Wales on 23rd January discussing the child poverty strategy and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s recent report on poverty in the UK.
The Bevan Foundation’s work on child poverty was also quoted in an article by nation.cymru on Cardiff being among top European cities for quality of life.

The Bevan Foundation’s Director, Victoria Winckler penned an article for Business News Wales in January, providing insights on Wales’ housing crisis.
The Foundation’s joint report with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation calling for better childcare to tackle disadvantage gained coverage in the Morning Star.
