Warning Against Knee-Jerk Reaction on Charities

Bevan Foundation A woman collecting for charity
NewsMarch 5th, 2012

Calls for a separate Welsh Charity Commission to be established in the light of the scandal around the charity AWEMA have been questioned by Bevan Foundation Director, Victoria Winckler.  Commenting in the Western Mail, she said: “I’d be very concerned if sweeping changes were made principally because of difficulties in one charity. There is no evidence whatsoever there’s a problem across the charity sector as a whole.”

Victoria’s comments follow the welcome given to an article she wrote on the Bevan Foundation’s blog, This is My Truth. Writing on his own blog, Peter Black AM said “Victoria Winckler has an excellent article … outlining the lessons that need to be learnt from the AWEMA scandal, here in Wales.”
