The Bevan Foundation leads a debate at the Plaid Cymru conference in Caernarfon

With the cost of living crisis continuing to squeeze families across Wales, the need to ensure that the support that is available is both sufficient and easy to access is more important than ever. For a number of years the Bevan Foundation have been arguing that establishing a Welsh Benefits System is a crucial step towards creating a fairer Wales. To that end, we were delighted to be able to sponsor a main stage debate at Plaid Cymru conference on 22nd March to discuss our work.

The debate was chaired by the Bevan Foundation’s Head of Policy (Poverty), Steffan Evans, who was joined by Plaid Cymru Senedd Members Sian Gwenllian MS and Sioned Williams MS, and Deputy Leader of Gwynedd Council, Cllr Nia Jeffreys. It provided delegates with an opportunity to learn more about the work that is already ongoing on establishing a Welsh Benefits System in Wales and to consider what developments could be taken forward next.

The debate was well attended by conference delegates and even garnered some media coverage from Golwg 360 and the Morning Star.
