Children should not have to worry about bills
Devastatingly, our research shows that half of Welsh children do.
Children deserve a secure start in life to reach their full potential. Yet 3 in 10 children in Wales still live in poverty, their families forced to make heart breaking decisions to cut back on essentials like heating and food.
The cost of living has made a bad situation worse.
50% of the children we recently surveyed said they were worried about their family’s ability to pay the bills this winter. Nearly 1 in 4 said they were worried about being cold and almost a quarter said they had missed out on a birthday party because their family couldn’t afford it…
More needs to be done to end poverty in Wales.
Under-fives in low-income families are amongst the hardest hit by poverty, the funding to support them woefully inadequate.
These children miss out on free school meals and, if they have two siblings, they don’t count towards any benefits. Neither do they get access to any free childcare – unless they are over 2 in a Flying Start area or over 3 and both parents work at least 16 hours a week.
This Christmas, we’re asking for virtual presents to end poverty
Our work has already led to the roll out of free school meals and more support for school uniform costs.
Now we’re taking more action to support children before they reach school age.
Will you help us raise £2,000 to help to end pre-school poverty?
By donating a virtual present to our appeal, you’ll help us persuade decision-makers to take the actions which give young children a better start in life.
We’ll use your present to further explore the pressures on low-income families with under-fives and model the actions that are most likely to increase the support available to them.

Buy a virtual present on our tree as a gift for someone else and we’ll create a personalised gift certificate with a message from you for the recipient.
3. Donate in place of Christmas cards
Choose to send one of our Christmas e-cards through Don’t Send Me A Card and donate what you might have spent on cards.
4. Raise donations by shopping online
We understand not everyone is able to give right now. If you’re shopping online, you could earn free donations for us through thousands of online retailers via Give as you Live.
5. Raise donations socialising
Host a ‘PEP (presents to end poverty) talk’ coffee morning, lunch or evening get together and ask people to donate the cost of a cuppa. Just donate your raised funds via our form below.
