What the Economy, Infrastructure and Skills Committee should do

The Bevan Foundation has today (1st September 2016) submitted its response to the consultation by the National Assembly for Wales’ Economy, Infrastructure and Skills Committee on its future priorities.

The Committee’s remit is wide ranging, and the Bevan Foundation has identified a total of eleven different subjects which it suggests the Committee should scrutinise.

On the economy, the Bevan Foundation recommends the Committee looks at whether the Welsh Government’s economic policies are fit for purpose in the light of Brexit and if they are prepared for economic shocks such as the possible closure of Port Talbot Steel Works (pictured). On skills, the Foundation suggests examining provision of learning and development opportunities for people aged 25+.

Bevan Foundation Director Dr Victoria Winckler said: “The Assembly’s Committees can be enormously influential. They can shine a light in dusty corners of Welsh Government policies and get behind the puff of press releases. We really hope that the Economy, Infrastructure and Skills Committee take our proposals on board”.
