This report examines the sustainability of legal aid in Wales, and outlines key recommendations to protect immigration legal aid services in Wales.
This report finds that :
- In the last five years, Wales has lost nearly half of its premises providing immigration legal services
- The collapse of the immigration legal aid sector is having a major impact on the capacity of other legal providers. Many providers of free immigration legal services are not accepting new referrals.
- Most low-income non-asylum applicants are unable to access justice, even where there is a risk that their human rights will be breached.
- Providers are suffering stress and psychological pressure caused by trying to work in a broken system.
