The Bevan Foundation’s work informs press discussion through November
There was media interest in a range of Bevan Foundation work during November – including our work on the social security system, child poverty and housing.
Social security system
The Bevan Foundation appeared in a number of media outlets to raise the importance of the social security system throughout November. In doing so we reiterated the importance of increasing the value of benefits to ensure they provide people with enough to money to meet their living costs.
Among the media outlets that have covered our calls throughout the month were S4C’s Newyddion, the Sun, Walesonline, and the Grimsby Telegraph.
Housing and the cost of living crisis
Data published in our Snapshot of poverty report and our work on the Local Housing Allowance also continued to make the headlines through November. From Nation.Cymru, to Yahoo News, and from the South Wales Argus to Deeside.com our work has enabled the press to better inform the public.
Child Poverty
November saw the Senedd’s Equality and Social Justice Committee publish the findings of its inquiry into child poverty in Wales. The Foundation were quoted at length in the report with our comments being picked up by some media outlets in their coverage of the committee’s work. Among the outlets to cover our comments were Walesonline, and the Senedd’s own research service website.
Other
The Bevan Foundation’s Director, Victoria Winckler penned two articles for Business News Wales through November. The articles covered very different topics, with one focusing on the need for fair play for women at work, whilst the second focused on the cost of congestion.
Also in November, calls by the Bevan Foundation to ensure that all workers are paid a fair salary were featured in an article on Nation.Cymru that looked at the impact of the latest increases in the National Living Wage on Welsh businesses.
The Foundation also featured in an article in the BBC that highlighted that 13 Senedd Members subscribe to the Bevan Foundation. With MSs from Labour, Plaid Cymru and the Conservatives subscribing to the Foundation, its work continues to inform all sides of the debate in the Senedd.
