Welcome for childcare report

The Bevan Foundation welcomes many of the recommendations by the Senedd’s Equality and Social Justice Committee on childcare

The Bevan Foundation welcomes many of the recommendations made by the Senedd’s Equality and Social Justice Committee’s latest report ‘Minding the Future‘. This report looks at the barriers facing parents of young children in finding adequate childcare. 

The Committee has drawn extensively on the Bevan Foundation’s evidence, as well as that provided by groups that it is currently working with including Action for Caerau and Ely, Together Creating Communities, South Riverside Community Development Centre and CLPW Communidade da Lingua Portuguesa Wrexham / Wales. 

We particularly welcome the Committee’s recommendation that the Welsh Government sets out how it intends to fill the gaps in provision between the end of statutory maternity leave and the start of its Childcare Offer. We also welcome the Committee’s call for the Welsh Government to explain how it intends to meet the needs of parents on low incomes, with atypical hours of work and people from diverse backgrounds.
