Sharing our views on social security with UK Parliamentary Group

Poverty A picture of a building

The Bevan Foundation has submitted written evidence to an inquiry on social security by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Poverty

The All Party Parliamentary Group on poverty recently launched an inquiry into the (in)adequacy of social security in the UK. The Bevan Foundation were pleased to be able to submit a response to bring a Welsh perspective to the group’s inquiry.

Our response drew on two research projects undertaken by the Foundation.

  1. Our work on the Local Housing Allowance and its impact on homelessness in Wales.
  2. Our latest Snapshot of poverty survey.

Our response argues that the current social security system does not provide people with an adequate income with there being a clear need to both uprate benefits regularly and to develop a system that is more generous.
