Can welfare work for Wales? Baseline Report

money smallThe social security system is changing rapidly in Wales, with some surprising recent trends. This short report sets out the key statistics on the main groups of social security benefit claimants, covering:

  • the number of claimants
  • recent trends
  • characteristics of claimants in terms of gender, age and duration of claim
  • and expenditure.

As well as the main working-age benefits, the report includes figures on Child Benefit and State Pension and Pension Credit.
