The Bevan Foundation share findings of new work on Welsh Benefits with the Welsh Government
Following the publication of a new report looking at the the feasibility of implementing a Welsh Benefits System earlier in the year, the Bevan Foundation were delighted to have recently been given the opportunity to discuss the report in greater detail with the Welsh Government. The report, written by Policy in Practice on behalf of the Bevan Foundation and a coalition of partners, identifies steps that can be taken to put a Welsh Benefits System into practice and we were pleased to be able to discuss these directly with the Welsh Government.
Joining us at the meeting were Jane Hutt MS, Minister for Social Justice and Chief Whip, Sian Gwenllian MS, Plaid Cymru’s designated member, and a number of senior officials from various teams. Rebecca Evans MS, Minister for Finance and Local Government was unable to join the session as planned due to another commitment but was represented by a member of her team. Members of the Policy in Practice team were also present at the meeting to discuss their findings in detail.
The discussion was an extremely positive one and we were pleased to hear about the Welsh Government’s plans to implement some of our suggested changes. We look forward to following what progress is made over the coming weeks and months.
