The Bevan Foundation appeared before the Senedd Economy, Trade and Rural Affairs Committee

The Bevan Foundation has given oral evidence to the Senedd’s Economy, Trade, and Rural Affairs Committee as part of their inquiry into the cost of living crisis in Wales.

Giving evidence alongside the Shavanah Taj of the Wales TUC and Deborah Hann from Citizens Cymru Wales, Steffan Evans, Head of Policy (Poverty) at the Bevan Foundation, shared insights from some of the Foundation’s work.

Among the key points made by Steffan was that whilst the cost-of-living crisis is affecting everyone in Wales, it is low-income households that are the hardest hit. He argued that the actions taken by the UK Government to date had been insufficient and had not been targeted effectively so as to provide adequate support to those that need it the most. Steffan suggested that the action taken by the Welsh Government on the other hand had been more effectively targeted but that there was still further action that could be taken to provide greater support to households and to improve delivery.
