The 2013 Bevan Prize for Health and Wellbeing

Bevan Mug Shot 610

The inaugural Bevan Prize for Health and Wellbeing was awarded in July 2013.

Our 2013 panel of judges comprised Prof Sir Mansel Aylward (Chair, Public Health Wales, Chair of the Welsh Government’s independent Bevan Commission, former UK and US government adviser and eminent clinician), author journalist and former Chair of the Aneurin Bevan Society – Geoffrey Goodman and Jaselle Williams, Secretary of the Society, a Bevan Foundation trustee and Bevan’s great-niece.

A wide range of nominations were received, reflecting a geographic spread and a diversity of organisations and individuals. Nominations were received from London, south Wales, Surrey, Sussex, Warwickshire, West Midlands, Manchester, Yorkshire, Tyneside and elsewhere in England and Wales. Nominations were received for eminent clinicians, NHS campaigners, nursing staff, health and care pioneers, civil servants, NHS clinical teams, voluntary organisations, hospices, community health initiatives and health charities.

The Prize was marketed across the UK in the press and online, with a number of MPs, charities and local groups using their websites to promote the Prize in their areas.
