Last week the Bevan Foundation’s ‘Demographic trends in Wales’ report was used in a House of Lords debate.

During a Brexit debate in the House of Lords on 6th December, Baroness Humphreys, Liberal Democrat Lords Spokesperson (Wales), used our research to argue that Wales needs migration to sustain and grow its population.

The Bevan Foundation’s research sounds a warning of the impact of a potential zero immigration into Wales. We have declining birth rates—our population growth has come from migration from the rest of the UK and overseas—and our working-age population is set to shrink, putting a strain on health and social care as well as other sectors in our economy.
