Co-operatives play an important role in the economy and employment in Wales, turning over more than £1 billion a year and providing around 7,000 jobs. Across the UK as a whole, co-operatives have been more resilient to recession and provide more stable and better quality jobs than mainstream businesses. They tend to be more innovative and more responsive to customer needs than mainstream businesses and also have high standards of coporate social responsibility.

This report looks at the evidence on the role of co-operatives in Wales using a mixture of case studies, evidence from surveys and data about co-operatives themselves.
