Dr Victoria Winckler’s article in the Spring edition of the NIACE Adults Learning magazine, looks at the link between adult learning and poverty in Wales. Dr Winckler suggests, that the fact that most people who live in poverty in Wales are living in households where someone is working challenges conventional policy thinking. She believes that adult learning could have a huge contribution to individuals being able to improve their qualifications therefore gain employment in higher paid jobs and achieve a higher income. With the Skills and Employment survey finding that on average, jobs in Wales have a lower skills content than other jobs in the rest of Britain, these issues need to be recognised and included in public policy, according to Victoria Winckler.

Other articles in the issue include; Adult education and the low-pay epidemic by Duncan Exley, Executive Director of the Equality Trust and Poverty and More jobs, better jobs: how growth can beat poverty by Professor Mike Campbell, Skills and Labour market expert.
