2019 Outlook for Wales

Bevan Foundation
ReportsResourcesJanuary 1st, 2019

Our latest look at the year ahead draws on a wide range of expert analyses as well as some speculation of our own. It makes for uncomfortable reading, with the prospects looking tough indeed for the least well-off in particular.

Our latest annual outlook – published in our State of Wales series – uses a mix of UK and Wales forecasts, as well as speculation of our own, to highlight some of the key issues in the next 12 months. The task is exceptionally difficult because of the many unknowns surrounding Brexit, which will affect not only the economy and labour market but also food prices, population changes and indeed politics itself.

This short report pulls all this together to paint a picture of Wales in 2019. It covers:

  • the economy
  • standard of living
  • social change
  • political change
  • conclusions.
