Cwmafan, Treharris & Treherbert Resident Focus Groups

Are you a resident of Cwmafan, Treharris or Treherbert?

two people having a video conference

We’re looking for people like you to have a confidential discussion about your views and experiences of spending money locally, in shops and on entertainment and services. This is part of a project on the ‘everyday economy’ in the south Wales valleys, which is focusing on Cwmafan, Treharris and Treherbert. As a thank you for your time, you’ll receive £15.

What’s it about?

The ‘everyday economy’ refers to the services we use and rely on that are in most places where people live and are vital to our daily lives and wellbeing. They include housing, schools, shops, utilities and much more. Protecting, promoting or growing the ‘everyday economy’ could mean more money and jobs stay in or circulate around Cwmafan, Treharris and Treherbert.

We’re developing recommendations of how this can be done, but we needed to understand better how money circulates in these towns and how it is spent on shopping, leisure activities, rent or mortgage payments, car repairs etc. Also we want to find out what spending options are available in the town and the surrounding areas. Does the money stay local or does it drift away via online spending?

We’d like to speak to as many people who live and work in Cwmafan, Treharris and Treherbert as possible, so we can develop based on their experiences and views on how to grow and improve the ‘everyday economy’.

What is involved?

If you decide you’d like to take part we’ll invite you to participate in an online group discussion that will last around an hour, during which you will be asked about your experiences of living in the town. You’ll just need a laptop or phone to join in. You are free to withdraw at any point and do not need to give any reason for doing so. The discussion will be recorded and then written up for use only by the Bevan Foundation. This transcript will not be passed to anyone else.

The Bevan Foundation strictly adheres to the principles of the Data Protection Act 1998/2018, as well as the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Your individual responses will not be shared with any other organisation. We may use some of what you say in our reports or articles but we would not use any information that would potentially identify you. Find out more about our privacy policy.

When are the discussions taking place?

We’re running group discussions throughout September, but places are limited.
