Sweeping changes to social security benefits will affect thousands of people in Wales as reforms to everything from Job Seeker’s Allowance to Housing Benefit and Winter Fuel Payments could mean some people losing their entitlement to state support entirely while others face losing a substantial part of their weekly income.  Wales will be affected by the changes more than any other part of the UK because more people in Wales receive a benefit.  It is far from clear that the labour market will be able to provide jobs for many people seeking a job, many of whom will have been out of the job market for years, while others will see a major fall in their incomes.

This report, prepared by the Bevan Foundation for the Cuts Watch Cymru coalition, outlines the main changes to benefits and identifies the numbers and characteristics of the people who will be affected.
