Poverty in Wales 2018

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s latest report provides an up-to-date analysis on the current status of poverty in Wales

The report looks back over the last twenty years, examining the poverty trends in Wales, comparing Wales with the rest of the UK.

The report covers the following:

• Provides an overview of poverty rates the different groups in Wales, including children, working-age adults and pensioners.
• Explores the evidence for other factors associated with poverty in Wales, such as work, worklessness, housing, health and relationships.
• Explores the evidence for the drivers of future poverty, such as education and skills, debt and pensions.

The report highlights that whilst poverty in Wales has fallen over the last twenty years, rates of poverty are still higher in Wales, than in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.  Almost a quarter of people in Wales live in poverty, and the risk of poverty is also increasing for both working and workless households.
