Fair Play for Disabled Children

People
ReportsResourcesJanuary 1st, 2011

Despite many good intentions, play and leisure services for disabled children and young people are poor – there is simply not enough to do, and the activities that are available are often not accessible or children’s enjoyment is marred by negative attitudes. The report, written by Victoria Winckler, looked at the experiences of more than 70 disabled children and young people, many of them with shocking stories to tell, and also interviewed a range of providers of services for young people. The report calls for action to be taken to radically improve the provision for disabled children and young people, and reminds service providers of their obligations under the Equality Act.
