People
ReportsResourcesJuly 20th, 2006

Lack of physical activity has been identified as a key factor in poor public health, and numerous attempts are being made to encourage people to take more exercise – but whilst the science is clear, the policy is less so.  This paper draws upon existing research to assess the main barriers to physical activity, including: socio-economic status, gender, ageing, lack of time and work commitments etc. This is complemented by interviews with a wide range of stakeholders including health service providers, community organisations, individuals and local authorities. Written by Simon Williams, sets out an alternative agenda for getting communities on the move.
