The Bevan Foundation sets out its response to the Welsh Government’s draft ‘refresh’ of its financial inclusion strategy.

The Welsh Government issued a draft, refreshed version of its financial inclusion strategy in November 2016. The Bevan Foundation’s response calls for:

  • a more robust vision of financial health;
  • recognition of the significant changes in household circumstances since 2009, as a result of changes in the labour market, social security benefits and financial products;
  • recognition of the importance of low income as a driver of financial difficulty;
  • a more carefully targeted approach that is clear about the scale of the problem, who is affected by it and the outcome required;
  • inclusion of financial institutions and people affected by financial exclusion (not just government funded providers);
  • a wider range of actions e.g. good practice in payments.
