Conference Report: New taxes for a better Wales

November 27th 2015

On Thursday 22nd October the Bevan Foundation hosted ‘New Taxes for a Better Wales’ to discuss how the Welsh Government could introduce new taxes to make Wales a better place to live.

We were joined by approximately 50 delegates representing the third, private and public sectors to discuss ideas and proposals for new taxes which could improve corporate and individual accountability for any social, economic or environmental ‘harm’, and which are not regressive in their impact.IMG_3242

Speakers included Jane Hutt, Minister for Finance and Government Business, and David Phillips, Senior Research Economist at the Institute for Fiscal Studies, and, following roundtable discussions, delegates were invited to present their ideas to a panel made up of Alun Davies AM (Welsh Labour), Andrew RT Davies AM (Welsh Conservatives), Eluned Parrott AM (Welsh Liberal Democrats) and Ian Johnson (Plaid Cymru).

This event was held as part of our ongoing ‘Tax for Good’ project. For more information about this, please click here.
