Pounds against Poverty

What could you go without this Christmas?

A turkey dinner? A Christmas tree? The toy your child has been asking for since August?

The average UK family spends £753 on Christmas.

Yet many of the 23% of people living in poverty in Wales will struggle to afford the basics, let alone the luxuries that many of us are fortunate enough to take for granted. Rising costs and the pressure to spend make Christmas a dark time for people living in poverty.

It’s not right.

Poverty occurs everywhere in Wales and it affects all of us

Poverty doesn’t just affect the homeless and unemployed – it affects ordinary working people, people like you, people who never anticipated struggling financially.

It’s unjust for the 700,000 people directly affected and it has a wide-reaching impact on economic growth and public spending, costing Wales around £3.6 billion a year.

We’ve made great strides in finding solutions to end poverty in Wales, developed actionable ideas to provide the support, education and employment opportunities that people need to move out of poverty. But we need your help to do more.

This Christmas, make a greater impact with your pounds

If, like us, you believe no one should go without the things that matter most at Christmas, please donate what you can before Tuesday 2nd January to help us end inequality and give those living in poverty a voice.
