The Bevan Foundation Experts by Experience Working Group shared its recommendations at the Senedd.

The Bevan Foundation has supported an Experts by Experience working group to develop their own recommendations to address some of the issues identified in our recent study into people’s experiences of accessing immigration and asylum justice in Wales. In an event at the Senedd kindly sponsored by Sioned Williams MS, they presented their work to an audience of Members of the Senedd, decision makers and stakeholders.

Among them were Senedd Members Mark Isherwood MS, Julie Morgan MS, Sioned Williams MS, Carolyn Thomas MS and Alun Davies MS, representatives of Welsh Government, and organisations supporting migrants and people seeking sanctuary.

The Group presented practical proposals for developing legal services, increasing collaboration between key agencies, providing accessible support, and informing people of their rights. They held a short panel discussion and the audience then engaged with the group in a Q&A.

The availability of free and low-cost immigration legal services in Wales is in crisis. The Bevan Foundation aims to improve legal advice and related services to people migrating to Wales through its influencing work. bringing the voices of people with lived experience of the crisis to the fore and supporting them to influence directly and effect change.

You can read the recommendations here. The study’s findings will be published in a series of reports throughout October and November, beginning with a summary report which is available on the Bevan Foundation website.
