Despite a busy month in Welsh and UK news, the Bevan Foundation’s work around poverty, migration and democracy has continued to receive media coverage.

Democracy

On general election night, you may have spotted the Bevan Foundation’s Head of Policy, Steffan Evans, on S4C. As the results came in and confirmed a new UK government, Steffan talked through some of the key policies and what they might mean for Wales.

Migration

This month, we released two briefings as part of our migration work, providing a snapshot of free schools meals and no recourse to public funds, and immigration legal services in Wales. The shocking finding that 60% of immigration legal offices in Wales have closed since 2018 was covered by the Electronic Immigration Network, the Institute of Race Relations, and Lexis News.

Poverty

The Bevan Foundation’s work on childcare has made the news this month with the release of the Equality and Social Justice Committee’s report Their Future: Our Priority? Follow up inquiry into childcare provision in Wales. Our finding that half of eligible parents do not access the Childcare Offer scheme was mentioned in articles by Senedd Wales, Herald Wales, Deeside.com and Wrexham.com.

Our work on rural communities and the cost-of-living crisis has also been covered in articles by the Morning Star and ForeignAffairs.co.nz.
