The Bevan Foundation is pleased to welcome four new trustees to its board
Our trustees are amazing people who give their time and expertise to help the Bevan Foundation thrive and grow. They are responsible for all aspects of the Bevan Foundation’s business, from deciding our priorities, making sure we have the right resources and use them effectively, ensuring we meet our legal obligations, and spreading the word about our work.
Four new trustees have been appointed as a result of open advert, to which we had a large number of responses. Gavin Thompson, Chair of the Bevan Foundation board, said:
“We are pleased to have appointed Rusna Begum, Sabrina Dubash, Tomos Owen and Laura Shobiye who will bring a range of frontline experience to the foundation. We had an impressive array of applications and I am grateful to everyone who took the time to apply.
The refreshed board will be developing the Foundation’s new strategy in the year ahead and we look forward to supporting the team in continuing to create a fairer, more prosperous and more sustainable Wales.”
A warm welcome to our new trustees:
Rusna Begum
CEO and founder of KidCare4U
Passionate about community representation, Rusna advocates for diversity across boards and organisations. She is dedicated to making a difference, particularly for low-income and marginalised communities, and told us “I’m really excited and looking forward to joining the Bevan Foundation, to be part of the journey in making a wider impact and difference to people’s lives across Wales.”
Sabrina Dubash
Welfare rights adviser, trainer and editor
Sabrina’s focus on providing better access to advice and justice with the aim of reducing poverty and inequality in Wales will provide valuable insights to the Bevan Foundation board. She said: “Tackling poverty and reducing inequality in Wales is at the heart of the foundation’s work and I’m really looking forward to working with the board and learning more about how we can best support this inspiring organisation.”
Tomos Owen
Deputy Chief Executive at Oasis
Tomos has a passion for social justice and human rights advocacy and has been involved with various organisations in this field, most recently as Chair of Cardiff’s Amnesty International Group. “I’m looking forward to bringing my experience of working with refugees and asylum seekers to the work being undertaken on migrants’ rights”, says Tomos, whilst “supporting the vision of a fair, prosperous and sustainable Wales for all.”
Laura Shobiye
Research Manager for Sported UK and a Lifelong Learning Lecturer at Cardiff University.
Laura is “thrilled to join an organisation that does such important work towards creating a fairer Wales, leading the way in social justice with a clear vision for equality.” In her previous role at the Equality and Human Rights Commission, she led the delivery of Is Wales Fairer 2023 report, and she recently completed a PhD exploring the role of social learning for seeking sanctuary in Wales.
