The Bevan Foundation has given oral evidence to the Local Government and Housing Committee as part of their inquiry into social housing supply.

Giving evidence alongside Robin White, Head of Campaigns, Shelter Cymru and Darren Baxter, Principal Policy Adviser, Joseph Rowntree Foundation; Wendy Dearden, Senior Policy and Research Officer at the Bevan Foundation, reflects on what is known already and where the Foundation intends to provide further insight through our new research.

Among the key points made by Wendy was that the 20,000 homes delivery target needs to be reviewed and increased due to the cost of living and ongoing housing crisis. It also needs to be more tightly focused on homes to be let at a social rent to address the blockages in our housing system. Wendy also reflected on our recent discussions with social landlords and local authority planners and discussion the three challenges of land, cost and consent when delivering social homes.

The Bevan Foundation’s work in this area is ongoing – to find out more, visit the projects page or get in touch.
