Coverage of Bevan Foundation work in the media throughout April remained strong, with many outlets drawing on our findings on Local Housing Allowance.

On April 8th, Bevan Foundation Director, Dr Victoria Winckler, was interviewed by the Irish Times about the legacy Margaret Thatcher left in Wales for the 10-year anniversary of her death.

Housing

Our work on housing received great coverage in April. In a call to end the freeze on Local Housing Allowance, Propertymark on April 5th referenced the Bevan Foundation’s most recent report on the Housing Crisis in Wales. Similarly, Mabon ap Gwynfor MS, commented in an article on rising rent costs in the Cambrian News, also drawing on the Foundation’s Local Housing Allowance findings.

Housing Policy officer, Rob King, reflected on the findings in the report in guest articles for both Welsh Housing Quarterly and Cymorth Cymru on April 21st.

Poverty

On April 19th, JTI reported that the Bevan Foundation were amongst some 90 charities who have collectively called on politicians to guarantee essentials for low-income households. In an opinion article for Nation Cymru on the Educational Maintenance Allowance, Mike Hedges MS, referenced the Bevan Foundation to emphasise that a 10% increase is not sufficient.
