The Bevan Foundation appeared before the Work and Pensions Committee to give evidence on benefit levels

The Bevan Foundation’s Head of Policy (Poverty), Dr Steffan Evans has given oral evidence to the UK Parliament’s Work and Pensions Committee as part of their inquiry into benefit levels in the UK.

Appearing alongside David Stickland from the Benefits Training Company; Professor Stephen Sinclair, Professor in Social Policy, Glasgow Caledonian University; Ciara Fitzpatrick, Academic Adviser, Northern Ireland Cliff Edge Coalition, Steffan shared insights from some of the Foundation’s recent work.

Among the key points made by Steffan was that benefit levels are not currently set at an adequate level to support low-income households. To illustrate this he draw on the findings of the Bevan Foundation’s most recent Snapshot of poverty survey and the findings of the Foundation’s research on the Local Housing Allowance. Steffan also shared insights with the Committee from the Foundation’s recent work on Welsh Benefits
