Bevan Foundation’s work has been cited by media outlets across the globe

December was another month where the cost of living crisis dominated the headlines. As with recent months the Bevan Foundation’s work was featured in much of the coverage in Wales. December, however, was the month that saw the Foundation’s work go international, getting coverage in a range of countries across the globe.

Cost of living and poverty

Early December saw the Bevan Foundation feature on BBC Wales and S4C to challenge deprivation clichés. The Bevan Team provided comment on a story on 1st December 2022 that 6 of the ten areas in Wales with the highest number of most deprived households are in Cardiff and just one is in the South Wales valleys.

Dr Victoria Winckler shared the Foundation’s insights on BBC Radio Wales and BBC Wales Today whilst Dr Steffan Evans appeared on S4C’s Newyddion.

An article also featured on the BBC website on the same day which drew on some of the Foundation’s website as to the impact of the cost of living crisis. The article appeared under the eye catching headline – Cost of living: People in Cardiff ‘eating pet food’.

With such an eye catching headline it is perhaps not surprising that the BBC’s article on the impact of the cost of living crisis in Cardiff was picked up by media outlets across the world. The story appeared on news websites in Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Mexico, Peru and Poland, with the Foundation’s insights translated into four languages.

Business News Wales

December saw our Director, Dr Victoria Winckler publish two further articles on Business News Wales. Her articles for the month looked at a range of issues including challenges facing the Welsh labour force and the Bevan Foundation’s Christmas appeal
