Bevan Foundation’s expertise informs print and broadcast media on likely impact of rising energy costs

Friday, August 26th saw OFGEM announce the latest increase in its energy cap for this autumn. From October, the cap for the average household on a typical default tariff will rise to £3,549. The Bevan Foundation’s, Head of Policy (Poverty), Steffan Evans appeared on a variety of different media outlets over the week to reflect on the likely impact of the cap.

During his appearances, Steffan drew attention to the fact that the Bevan Foundation’s latest Snapshot of poverty survey had found that 13% of Welsh households already sometimes or often struggled to afford everyday essentials. With costs set to surge further, there are concerns that the situation could deteriorate further, pushing more and more families into hardship.

Among the contributions made by Steffan were:

  • An interview on BBC Radio Cymru’s Dros Ginio programme (24 August)
  • An interview on BBC Radio Wales’ Breakfast Show (26 August)
  • An interview for the Global Radio Network (26 August).
