New report by the Senedd’s Economy, Trade and Rural Affairs Committee has drawn heavily on the Bevan Foundation’s evidence
The Senedd’s Economy, Trade and Rural Affairs committee has published a report on the future of hospitality, tourism and retail. The Bevan Foundation’s director, Dr Victoria Winckler provided evidence to the committee in March 2022. The report has adopted the Bevan Foundation’s call for more to be done to improve the terms and conditions of workers in the sector.
Among some of the key points made, the Bevan Foundation identified three priorities for the Welsh Government. Firstly, to enforce legal minimums that workers should receive, such as breaks. Secondly, educate individuals on worker’s rights, particularly those in institutions supported by Welsh Government Funding, such as students and trainees. Finally, ‘co-investment’ to ensure that the workforce is valued and not seen as expendable.
The Bevan Foundation was quoted extensively in the report, which can be read here or on the Economy, Trade and Rural Affairs page on the Senedd Website.
