Bevan Foundation in the press – March

March was another busy month for the Bevan Foundation with our work being appearing in the media on a number of occasions

There has been huge media interest in the Bevan Foundation’s over the passed month. The variety of the Foundation’s work is reflected in the broad nature of issues that the Foundation have been approached to comment on. 

The cost of living crisis and debt

The cost of living crisis has continued to dominate media coverage over recent months, with concerns that the war in Ukraine will lead to the situation deteriorating further. The Foundation’s work has been used on a number of occasions to provide insight as to the nature of the problem and to highlight possible solutions. 

Steffan Evans appeared on behalf of the Foundation on S4C’s Newyddion on March 31 to discuss rising gas prices, before making a contribution to Pawb a’i Farn the same evening. Earlier in the month the Foundation’s work on the cost of living crisis appeared in a range of local and national and UK print and online news outlets. These included the i newspaper, the South Wales Argus, and the Bangor Aye. 

Free School Meals and Affordable Housing  

The media’s interest in the Bevan Foundation’s work has extended beyond the cost of living crisis. The Bevan Foundation’s work has been covered by the press with regards to two other policy areas. 

The Bevan Foundation’s support for expanding Free School Meals was noted by Nation.Cymru in an article reacting to a new funding announcement by the Welsh Government. The Bevan Foundation will shortly be publishing more work on Free School Meals so be sure to keep an eye on our website (this report has now been published and can be accessed here).

The National, meanwhile provided extensive media coverage for the Bevan Foundation’s recent publication – Wales’ housing crisis: making the LHA work for Wales. The article provided a detailed summary of the Foundation’s latest findings on the challenges faced by low income renters.
