Bevan Foundation joins joint meeting of the UK Parliament’s All Party Parliamentary Group and the Welsh and Scottish Parliament’s Cross Party Groups on poverty

Tuesday 26th April 2022 saw the first ever joint meeting of the UK Parliament’s All Party Parliamentary Group and the Welsh and Scottish Parliaments’ Cross Party Groups on poverty. The meeting provided people and organisations from across the UK with an opportunity to come together to discuss the impact of the cost of living crisis and to share ideas for solutions.

Following welcomes and introductions by the Chair of the Senedd’s Cross Party Group on Poverty, John Griffiths MS, panellists from across the UK were invited to share their insights in a series of short presentations. The presentations were chaired by the Co-chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Poverty, Baroness Ruth Lister. The Bevan Foundation were delighted to be given the opportunity to contribute to the session, with our Head of Policy (Poverty) Steffan Evans, appearing alongside Nerys Sheehan from Action in Caerau and Ely to discuss the position in Wales.

After the presentations participants were invited to join a Q&A session chaired by Elena Whitham MSP. A number of excellent questions were raised from the floor and there was agreement from all those present that there is a need for campaigners, organisations, parliaments and governments across the UK to work together to solve poverty.

The Bevan Foundation would like to thank the Poverty Alliance and the Child Poverty Action Group for their work in organising the session. The Bevan Foundation provides the secretariat for the Senedd’s Cross Party Group on Poverty. If you would like to know more about the group or get involved yourself then contact us
