Bevan Foundation work informs discussion on the rising cost of living

The findings of the Bevan Foundation’s A snapshot of poverty in winter 202informed BBC Wales’ recent coverage of the cost of living crisis. The report’s findings were used on a variety of different platforms including:

Steffan Evans, the Bevan Foundation’s Head of Policy (Poverty) also provided comment:

We were concerned to hear that a third of families in Wales were cutting back on their energy use, a quarter were cutting back on food for adults and 1 in 10 families with two children cut back on food for children. As we see costs increase, and the weather gets colder so people need to use their heating more, the concern is that families are going to have to cut back even further. That’s going to have an impact on their health, wellbeing and general living standards.

We were delighted to see that the BBC Politics Wales coverage visited Action in Caerau and Ely’s Food Pantry. The Bevan Foundation has been working closely alongside ACE for the past year and were pleased to see people being given an opportunity to share their experiences directly.

The cost of living crisis is set to be discussed in the Senedd this week and will be the subject of a Plaid Cymru debate. We look forward to following the discussion.
