Bevan Foundation consults on Race Equality Action Plan

The Bevan Foundation is pleased to be carrying out a consultation on the draft  Race Equality Action Plan

Marking the fourth national Windrush day this week, the minister for Social Justice made a statement on eradicating racism. Setting out the vision for an anti-racist Wales, the minister discussed the development of the Race Equality Action Plan. Prior to the pandemic work had began on developing a stand alone strategy. However the disproportionate effect of COVID-19 on BAME communities and the death of George Floyd increased the urgency to develop an action plan.

The draft plan sets out the vision for an anti-racist Wales by 2030. Guided by an evidence review undertaken by Wales Centre for Public Policy, the plan has been co-produced with BAME communities. The document is comprehensive and sets out the actions and goals across 13 policy areas. It also includes a number of cross cutting goals including an impact and assessment of the policy goals. A consultation on the draft plan was launched in March.

Consultation on the draft plan

In partnership with the South Riverside Community Development Centre the Bevan Foundation is currently carrying out a consultation on the plan.

Claire Thomas who is leading the work on the consultation said “we are pleased to be carrying out the consultation. This has been a great opportunity to work in partnership with South Riverside Community Development Centre. Ensuring the voices of the community inform the development of the plan is extremely important”.

The consultation period will end on July 15^th. The Bevan Foundation and South Riverside Community Development Centre look forward to submitting the findings from the consultation events.
