Bevan Foundation contributes to discussion on low paid workers

Steffan Evans joined BBC Radio Cymru to discuss the Resolution Foundation’s new report on low paid workers

Ymunodd Steffan Evans â BBC Radio Cymru I drafod adroddiad Newydd gan y Resolution Foundation ar weithwyr cyflog isel.

Following the publication of the Resolution Foundation’s new report, Low Pay Britain 2021 Steffan Evans appeared on BBC Radio Cymru’s Dros Frecwast on June 7^th to discuss low paid work in Wales.

Drawing on some of the Bevan Foundation’s own research Steffan outlined how low paid workers in Wales had been the least likely to see their pay topped up whilst on furlough. He also outlined how low pay is not a new problem in Wales, noting how parts of the economy are dependent on the work of low paid workers. Steffan argued that whilst it is important to drive up hourly pay rates, it is vital that any conversation on employment looks at the whole picture, including the provision of paid breaks, and sick and holiday leave to ensure workers in low paid sectors get the maximum benefits.

Fe wnaeth Steffan ddadlau tra ei bod hi yn bwysig i gynyddu tal yr awr i weithiwr cyflog isel, mae hi hefyd yn hanfodol bod unrhyw ddadl ar gyflogaeth yn edrych ar y darlun cyfan gan gynnwys darpariaeth tal am egwyl, a’r ddarpariaeth sydd ar gael i weithwyr tra eu bod yn sâl neu ar wyliau.
