Bevan Foundation joins forces with South Riverside Community Development Centre for exciting new partnership

The Bevan Foundation has set up an exciting new partnership with SRCDC to ensure people’s lived experience of migration shapes policy.

The Bevan Foundation is delighted to announce that it has agreed a partnership with SRCDC (South Riverside Community Development Centre). The project aims to develop the way that people with lived experience of migration can shape policy-making in Wales.

The SRCDC works to benefit the communities in the Riverside, Canton and Grangetown areas, and aims to:

• advance the education of the public in matters related to mental, physical, cultural, and social welfare
• relieve poverty.

We will work together to share expertise to ensure people’s experiences of migration is at the centre of policy making.

Developing a partnership approach

The activity, funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, will seek to foster a lasting and mutual relationship between the Bevan Foundation, South Riverside Community Development Centre and people with lived experience of migration. Dr Claire Thomas of the Bevan Foundation said:

“This is an exciting opportunity to work with SRCDC to ensure the migrant voice is reflected in decisions which affect them. We think it is vitally important that people with lived experience of migration are involved in the policy making process. Currently many groups of migrants are falling through a policy-gap in Wales. Through this partnership we want to ensure they have an organised voice to help them to develop their capacity”

Speaking on behalf of SRCDC Director Neil Binnell said:

“We are looking forward to establishing a deep and long-term relationship with the Bevan Foundation as well as politicians and senior policy makers. We have embedded an approach to community engagement in South Riverside and are pleased to be collaborating with the Bevan Foundation to ensure the voices of the local BAME communities are heard at government level. This project will work to ensure that community voices help to shape and influence policy at the Senedd. ”
