The Bevan Foundation were pleased to join to Plaid Cymru Cardiff to share its latest work on housing and poverty

Steffan Evans was delighted to receive an invitation from Plaid Cymru Cardiff to come and share the Bevan Foundation’s latest work on housing and Welsh Benefits at a branch meeting. Steffan gave a presentation outlining how significant a problem poverty is in Wales and talked about housing’s role.

Steffan explored how housing costs can drive some families into poverty in Wales. He also explained that not only can unaffordable housing costs be a cause of poverty but that being in poverty places people at a heightened risk of living in poor quality, over crowded homes.

Sharing some of the Bevan Foundation’s latest research on housing and poverty, Steffan outlined how establishing a Welsh Benefits System, could lead to a more generous and fairer system of support for people who are trapped in poverty and provide families with a vital lifeline. He also set out why the Bevan Foundation believes there is a need to construct more social housing in Wales and why it is so important that social rents no longer increase above inflation.

Speaking about the event Steffan Evans said “if we are to solve poverty in Wales it is vital we take action on housing. I was therefore very grateful to Plaid Cymru Cardiff for the invitation to come and share some of our work with them. It is vital that we all work together if we are to end poverty”.
