The Bevan Foundation’s pioneering work on the need to establish a Welsh Benefits System gained cross party support at the Senedd on Wednesday. Speaking at a plenary debate on the Equality, Local Government and Communities Committee Report: ‘Benefits in Wales: options for better delivery’ members from Welsh Labour, Plaid Cymru, and the Welsh Conservatives all made reference to the Foundation’s work on the need to establish a Welsh Benefits System and to evidence submitted to the committee as part of their inquiry.

The Bevan Foundation is pleased to see that cross-party support for its proposals continue to grow. This follows the Committee making a similar recommendation back in October 2019.

In addition to the Bevan Foundation’s work on the Welsh Benefits System, reference was also made to the Bevan Foundation’s work on reducing the impact of Coronavirus on poverty this winter. We were especially pleased to hear that the Welsh Government are intending to commit to nation wide benefit take up campaign to coincide with the end of furlough this autumn, one of the major recommendations from our work.
