The Bevan Foundation has submitted evidence to the National Assembly’s Children, Young People and Education Committee as part of their inquiry into the impact of coronavirus on children and young people
The National Assembly’s Children, Young People and Education Committee is undertaking an inquiry into the impact of coronavirus on children and young people in Wales. The Committee is interested in hearing the views of a range of individuals and organisations, including the views of children and young people themselves, reflecting the significant impact that the virus and the measures put in place to control it is having on families all over Wales.
The Bevan Foundation’s evidence primarily focuses on the impact of cornavirus on child poverty and on children who are living in poverty. Our response covers a range of issues including:
- How many children were living in poverty in Wales before the virus hit
- The impact that the virus may have on the number of families living in poverty
- The ways in which the virus and the measures put in place to contain its spread is likely to have a disproportionate impact on children living in poverty
- The measures that have been put in place by the Welsh Government and Welsh local authorities to try and help families, and what more could be done.
