1 in 6 children at risk of going hungry this Christmas

December 12th 2018

The thought of a child going hungry over the school holidays, let alone at Christmas, is shocking.

But as our infographic below shows, one in six children are at risk of missing out this Christmas because their families simply can’t afford to give them the regular, decent meals they receive at school.

The Bevan Foundation is taking steps to end holiday hunger in Wales. In February, with the support of Merthyr Valley Homes, we’re hosting a seminar to explore long-term solutions to the growing problem of holiday hunger.

We’ll be inviting decision-makers from across Wales to share their experiences and brainstorm new ideas.

Through a similar approach, we were recently able to stop the abolition of school uniform grants for the poorest children in Wales; with enough support we can ensure no child goes hungry in the school holidays either.
