The average person in Britain will have spent around £327 on Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals.
That’s over 6 times the value of free school meals lost by a low-income family with 2 children over the Christmas holidays.
For too many of the 76,000 children in Wales eligible for free school meals, holidays and hunger go hand in hand.
That’s why, on National Giving Tuesday, we’re launching our Hands up Against Holiday Hunger appeal.
Imagine being in a position where you can’t easily give your children three meals a day. The holidays bring this challenge to many parents in Wales, and the impact of not having enough to eat lasts well beyond the school holidays, stretching families’ finances and blighting children’s health and academic potential for years.
Many community groups and voluntary organisations will go above and beyond this Christmas to help many of these families. But we need long-term solutions.
This Christmas, will you have a hand in helping end the scandal of holiday hunger?
For just £10 you can put your hand up on our virtual Christmas tree and help fund our upcoming project to find long-term solutions. We’ll also send you a little wooden hand to hang up at home as a symbol of your support.
Earlier this year we persuaded the Welsh Government to reinstate school uniform grants for poor children. By donating to our project, you will help us achieve a result for holiday hunger too.
Please, put your hand up now.
Thank you.
