The Bevan Foundation is making a significant contribution to the work of the Welsh Government’s Valleys Taskforce, launched on Thursday 22nd September.

The Welsh Government has established a Taskforce to develop “a new approach to investing in the future of our Valleys that will engage and empower local communities and restore a sense of hope and aspiration.”  The Foundation’s Director, Victoria Winckler, delivered a keynote presentation to the Taskforce and its board members at their first, two-day meeting on 22nd-23rd September. Victoria outlined an alternative way of approaching the challenges in the Valleys and drew on the findings of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s strategy to solve poverty in the UK to identify some practical steps the Welsh Government could take.

The day before the launch, members of the Assembly’s Equality, Local Government and Communities Committee, including Janet Finch-Saunders AM and Alun Davies AM, quoted an online article by Victoria about the Taskforce – you can read the article here.

In addition, on Thursday 22nd September, Victoria was interviewed by BBC Radio Wales Good Morning Wales programme on her views of the Taskforce.
