The Bevan Foundation today issued a call to the next Welsh Government to earmark and extra £300 million to spread prosperity and improve life chances. The radical programme includes:
- help to ensure people have the basics of life – food, shelter and warmth
- free childcare for all 3 and 4 year olds to enable their parents to work
- a new Moving into Work framework to dramatically improve support for people of all ages looking for a job
- a Youth Pledge to eradicate youth unemployment
- active introduction of the Living Wage
- support for progression and productivity growth in sectors such as caring, retailing and food / hospitality.
The programme aims to increase the proportion of people in households with incomes above 60% of the median to 80% by 2020.
