Evidence to Assembly Inquiry into Poverty

September 15th 2014

The Bevan Foundation has submitted written evidence to the Assembly’s Communities, Equality and Local Government Committee’s inquiry into poverty.  The inquiry is looking at a wide range of issues with the first strand covering equality.

The submission, made jointly with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, says that while the Tackling Poverty Action Plan recognises the importance of making connections with equality issues, equality could be mainstreamed more effectively into the plan.  It could also have stronger links with economic policy which JRF’s recent work shows is critical to a successful anti-poverty strategy.

The Bevan Foundation and Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s evidence outlined recent work on destitution in Wales and the rest of the UK.

The evidence concluded by considering the budget earmarked for tackling poverty programmes which it concluded was small relative to the scale of the problem.
